In Indian Naval Hydrographic Chart 208 and 2054, one will find the name of a minor port – ALANG. This port is geographically located in the country of India, State of Gujarat, District of Bhavnagar.. This port of ALANG in Talaja Taluka of Bhavnagar Dist. was selected as the best port available amongst all the ports in Gujarat State and was decided to be developed as a SHIP BREAKING YARD in the last quarter of the year 1982. The first ship m.v. Kota Tanjong was beached at Alang Ship Breaking Yard on 13th February, 1983. Since then ALANG has become the largest Ship-Breaking-Yard in the Country of India and second largest in Asia. It is 60 kilometers by road from Bhavnagar City. Nearly 175 plots along 15 kms. Stretch of coastline at Alang, have been developed for ship breaking activity, which includes VLCC plots. At an average, two thousand ships are being demolished every year. First thing we do is to dismantle the whole body of the machine and then clean it with chemicals, any part worn out or missing is replaced and again refitted in original shape. We also do painting and make the machine/equipment looking as good as new . Sometimes when we see no potential of selling the item as a unit, we dismantle it and sell its parts on piecemeal basis. Such parts may not be available readily in market. When there are two units of identical make and model, we make them serviceable by cannibalizing method. And remaining parts of the second unit may be sold on piecemeal basis.
